Studying for The Learners Permit Test

There is no shortage of information when it comes to getting ready to pass the Georgia driving permit test, you can choose between a number of free and paid sources. The first place to start should be the drivers manual, which was already mentioned above. The drivers handbook is free and all permit test questions will based on the information in the manual.

If you are prepared to spend a few dollars on your education, you may sign up for one of the Georgia drivers education classes. Drivers ed classes provide you with additional information on traffic safety and teach you some advanced driving techniques. If you are under 18 years of age, you will have to take the class prior to applying for your class D drivers license, so you may just as well take it before the drivers permit test.

Taking The Permit Test GA

According to the current rules, you have to be at least 15 years old in order to be eligible for the Georgia permit test. The test can be taken at any DDS office and you do not have to make an appointment, you can walk in any time during the regular business hours.

When you show up at the DDS, be prepared to do the following:

  • provide proof of ID
  • provide proof of citizenship
  • provide proof of Georgia residency

If you are under 18 years of age, you must have a parent or legal guardian to be present with you. One of your parents will need to sign your application for Georgia learners permit. The person who signs the application will be able to cancel your driving privileges any time until you turn 18.

You will need to pay a testing fee of $10 prior to taking the permit test. The fee is valid for one attempt only, if you don't pass the test this time, you will have to pay the fee again when you show up for your next exam.

Apart from taking the permit test for GA, the examiner will also ask you to take a vision exam. You must satisfy the minimum vision requirements in order to be eligible for a license or a permit.

While taking the learners permit test, please avoid using your cell phone or talking to other people. If you have a question, you should address it to the examiner. If the examiner suspects that you are cheating on the exam, the test is marked as failed. You will not be able to obtain a refund for the testing fee, so make sure to observe these simple rules.

Once you pass the exam, you will be given your instruction permit.
