California Permit Test Questions

The questions you will be asked on your California permit test will cover a wide range of topics from the California drivers handbook. The permit test questions will assess your knowledge of traffic laws and road signs and they can be somewhat tricky if you are not prepared and most people tend to underestimate the complexity of the learners permit exam and fail the first time they take it. Wondering how many questions are on the California permit test? California permit test contains 46 questions and you will need to give at least 39 correct answers, which makes the passing score almost 85%. This is a bit higher than the passing score for most states, which is usually around 70-80%, so you will have to put some extra hours of study in order to ensure the success on the exam. Some people accuse the DMV of making the permit test questions too hard and tricky and using unnecessarily complex wording, but this is not exactly true. The DMV is trying to make sure that you do not just memorize the answers for the questions, but learn the actual rules and understand how to apply them in different situations so when you are presented with a similar situation on the road, you will know what to do.

Studying for California DMV Permit Test

The way you will prepare for the California learner's permit test will largely depend on your age. According to the current California graduated license law, every license applicant who is younger than 17 and ½ has to complete a California drivers education class and sign up or complete professional driving lessons. California drivers ed classes are made per DMV specifications and they do a great job of getting you prepped for the real exam. At the moment, the California DMV endorses both online drivers education and in class drivers ed, so you can choose the course that suits your schedule and wallet best.

If you are not going through drivers ed, then you should definitely grab yourself a copy of California DMV test book. The drivers manual contains a detailed description of the licensing procedure, covers the state road signs and traffic laws and even provides some sample practice permit tests.
