The 2013 Wyoming permit test covers the state road signs, traffic laws and safe driving practices and is based on the information provided in the driver handbook. Almost half of those who take the Wyoming permit test the first time fail it, so if you want to see whether you are ready for the real knowledge exam, help yourself to the free 2013 Wyoming practice permit test.

Permit Test Questions

There will be 25 multiple choice questions on your Wyoming permit test and you will need to answer at least 19 of them correctly if you want to pass, which makes the passing score 80%. Each question will have four answers, only one of the answers is correct. Permit test questions cover such topics as the state driving rules, road signs, safe driving practices and are based on the materials from the Wyoming permit test handbook that is provided free of charge by the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

Although the passing score for the Wyoming permit test is relatively low and the DMV tells you what exactly you need to study, approximately half of those who take the test the first time fail it. In most cases, people have no one but themselves to blame as they overestimate their knowledge of driving laws and fail to study for the exam. For some reason, many people tend to think that knowing the basics should get them through the test. Fortunately, this is not true, the DMV will allow you to get behind the wheel only when they can be sure that you know virtually every rule that can come in handy on the road.

Here a sample practice question that can give you an idea of what you will be facing on your real Wyoming permit test:

“The Implied Consent law states that by receiving a Wyoming drivers license and assuming driving privileges, you consent to ____”

A. Observing all traffic rules and being punished for failing to do so.
B. Providing assistance to emergency services upon request.
C. Wearing a seat belt at all times while driving.
D. Being tested for alcohol or drugs any time while driving on public roads.

Although you may find the right answer to this sample question at the end of the article, we advise that you take your time and search the drivers handbook for this info.

Your Wyoming learners permit test will have 25 questions like the one above and your chances of guessing the right answers are quite slim, as shown by the failure rates. The only way for you ensure that you pass the permit test the first time you take it is to study for it. Don't try to cut corners, invest as much time as possible into preparing for the exam.

Studying for The Permit Test

There are many study options you could choose from today, however we advise that you start by reading the official drivers manual. The test is based on the information in this book, there won't be any questions on the exam that are not covered by the book. Plus, this is the official source of information, which means that you don't have to wonder whether what you are reading is right. You can download a copy of the manual from the DMV website or pick up a printed copy at one of the DMV offices.

Reading the handbook can be supplemented with taking practice permit test. Some permit applicants make the mistake of taking practice tests before learning the rules, hoping that they will just memorize the answers and that will get them through the real permit test. This approach does not yield good results as practice tests only show you the right answer to a question, they don't provide you with reasoning behind that answer, hence it is much harder for you to learn the rule, let alone understand it. Also, make sure you are taking a Wyoming practice permit test, as generic practice tests won't do you much good and won't give you a good representation of what the real DMV permit test will be like. Keep in mind: there is a free Wyoming DMV practice test and a Wyoming drivers license test available on the site, both sample exams offer unlimited permit test questions you can take over and over again!

Drivers who want to learn a little more than the book has to offer can sign up for a Wyoming drivers education class. In addition to teaching you everything there is in the handbook, drivers ed classes provide a great coverage of defensive driving techniques and offer you with invaluable tips to driving in adverse weather conditions. Teen drivers who want to obtain full driving privileges before the age of 17 years must complete a drivers ed class as part of the Wyoming graduate drivers license program.

Taking The Permit Test

The minimum age for applying for a Wyoming learners permit and taking the permit test is 15 years (unless you apply for a hardship or extreme inconvenience permit or a license). When you are ready for the test, visit any DMV permit testing sites during their working hours. No appointment is necessary, just make sure you are prepared to do the following when you visit the testing site for your Wyoming DMV permit test:

  • provide proof of ID
  • provide proof of age
  • provide proof of Wyoming residency
  • provide your Social Security Number
  • pay the testing fee
  • take a vision test
  • take the permit test

If you are under 18 years of age, you need to have a parent or legal guardian present at the testing site. The parent has to sign a Minor's release form, approving your application and accepting partial liability for any damages that may result from your actions behind the wheel.

If you do not pass the learners permit test the first time, you may be allowed to retake the exam the same day or may be asked to return the next day, depending on how many questions you miss. The decision is made by a DMV employee and cannot be disputed.

Once you pass the Wyoming permit test, you are issued with an instruction permit that allows you to start practicing driving. The permit does not grant you full driving privileges and is subject to various Wyoming permit restrictions. These restrictions are lifted when you fulfill all permit requirements, pass the Wyoming drivers test and get a full unrestricted drivers license.
