Connecticut Learners Permit

Connecticut Learners Permit

If you are looking into obtaining a drivers license and you are under 18 years of age, obtaining a Connecticut learners permit should be your first step. Please note that applicants who are over 18 years of age are not required to apply for the Connecticut instructional permit.

Connecticut GDL

The Department of Motor Vehicle in Connecticut treats safety seriously and this is why the state has one of the best graduated drivers license programs. The learners permit is part of this program, allowing teenagers to practice driving with a more experienced driver before they hit the road.

Learners Permit Exam

Before you can be issued with a learners permit, you will be required to take a Connecticut permit test that will assess your familiarity with the Connecticut traffic regulations. If you want to pass the test the first time you take it, you should take your time going over the official drivers manual and taking some practice tests to learn how to use that knowledge.

Another great way to prepare for the test is to go through a Connecticut drivers education class. If you plan on obtaining a license before you are 18, you will have to take the class anyway, and if you take it before you get your permit, it will also prepare you for the permit test.

Once you pass your exam at the DMV, you will be issued with an official Connecticut learner's permit.

Learners Permit Restrictions

The instructional permit does not grant you with full driving privileges and it holds certain permit restrictions and limitations, the main one being the fact that you cannot operate a motor vehicle unless being supervised by a licensed driver 20 years old or older.

You will need to hold your learners permit for a minimum period of 120 days before you can schedule the road test and apply for your Connecticut drivers license.
