KY Practice Permit Test Answers

Answer A to this practice permit test KY sample quiz tells us that you can make always a right turn on red lights. This doesn't seem correct at all.

Answer B to this Kentucky practice permit test question suggests that you can make a turn if there are no road signs prohibiting the turn. This sounds correct: if traffic control wants to prohibit the right turn on an intersection, they will install a corresponding sign.

Answer C tells us that we can make the right turn ONLY if we slow down before making this turn. While this sounds correct and slowing down before making the turn is a reasonable thing to do, this is a trick answer. The DMV does not want you to slow down, they want you to come a complete stop before making a right turn on red lights.

Answer D to this Kentucky permit practice test tells us that we can make a turn ONLY if there is a green arrow present. Once again, this doesn't seem to be right, as a green arrow is a completely different traffic signal that allows you to make “protected turns”.

Answer E to the KY permit practice test tells us to come to a complete stop before making the turn. This is correct, as we already learned from answer C.

Answer F tells us to give way to pedestrians. This sounds reasonable, you are making a turn on red light, so you have to yield to everyone else who may intersect your vehicle's path. Make sure to include this answer should you encounter the question on the Kentucky permit test.

Answer G suggests that you yield the right of way to other traffic on the intersection. Just like with the previous answer, this one seems to be a valid choice.

Correct Permit Test Answer

As we already mentioned, there is more than one correct answer to this practice sample test and you have to select all of the correct answers. Here is what the official Kentucky drivers manual has to say about making a right turn on red lights:

“If not prohibited by signs, and you are in the proper lane, you must first STOP, and then turn right when the way is clear of vehicle or pedestrian traffic”

This means that in order to answer this KY sample question on traffic signals correctly, you should have selected answers B, E, F and G.
