Virginia permit test has two parts on it: road signs and road rules and you have to pass the road signs part of the test before you even start the road rules section. Answer A to the DMV VA practice test question tells us that this sign means that there is a hazard in the center of the road and that you should merge left or right to avoid it. While it may seem appealing at first, there is a different signs for such purpose. The markers that are used to mark dangerous spots have yellow and black stripes and the stripes are angled in the direction you need to take to avoid danger.

Answer B to the Virginia DMV practice test suggests that this sign is placed over a traffic lane and it shows you which directions you can go from this lane, left or right. This is incorrect because directional signs and specifically lane use control signs are usually white, with black arrows pointing in the required direction.

Answer C to the DMV Virginia practice test question tells us that this road sign signifies the end of the divided highway. Make sure not to make the mistake of picking this answer on your Virginia DMV permit test, the end of the divided highway is also an orange warning sign of the same shape, however it displays a median at the bottom of the sign and thus can be easily identified.

Answer D to the VA DMV practice test suggests that this sign warns us about a Y intersection coming up ahead. So far, this is the most reasonable answer.

This particular sign is one of the “intersection signs”, road signs that warn you about the type of the intersection that will come next. The sign will tell you if there's a cross road, a side road, a T or Y intersection or a round-about ahead of you so you can merge to the correct lane and be alert for other traffic.
