Tuesday testing for California drivers license at the Department of Motor Vehicles office in Novato, CA, ended with an accident when a middle aged drivers license applicant drove her Nissan Maxima into the DMV building.
According to the daughter of the driver who happened to be in the vehicle at the time, the woman mistook the gas pedal for the brake, which resulted in excessive acceleration. The vehicle ended up knocking over a heavy garbage container made of concrete and got stuck between two posts. The driver was practicing for the California drivers license test which was supposed to be on October 10.
Although no one was hurt, all witnesses were shaken by the accident. Obviously, the driver had no control over the vehicle and it is a miracle that no one sustained any injuries. This raises an issue of allowing learners permit holders to drive without any prior professional instructions.
