Still looking for study materials that could help you prepare for the California DMV permit test? Make sure to check out the official California DMV handbook if you have not done so yet. The DMV test is based on the materials presented in the book and there is no better way to prepare for the test than by reading this manual. The only exception to this is taking a state-approved California drivers education course from one of the commercial schools, drivers ed classes usually have even more information than the book and if you study and don't skip through the lessons, there is simply no way for you not to pass the exam. Most of the companies that offer drivers ed will also provide you with at least one CA DMV practice test, so you will not need any addiitonal study guides.

Answers To CA Permit Test Question

Answer A to the California DMV practice test offers you to drive at the posted speed limit as you enter the curve, then slow down and the sharpest part curve. This is probably the worst thing you can do and it is highly likely that following these instructions will throw the car into a skid. When you start braking, the weight of the car shifts forward, which results in less traction for your rear wheels. Inertia will keep pulling your car toward the outside of the curve and with your rear wheel having less traction, the rear of the vehicle will start skidding.

Answer B to the CA DMV practice test suggests that you slow down before you enter the curve. This sounds reasonable.

Answer C to the California DMV practice permit test question offers you to accelerate gently before you enter the curve. This is not something you should do. Always enter the curve at safe speed, do not accelerate before you hit the curve or while you are on the curve (accelerating on the curve may help you recover from a skid if your rear wheels have already lost traction, but this requires more advanced driving skills and is not covered by this test).

Answer D to the DMV practice permit test California question tells you to drive at the posted speed limit of the roadway before, throughout and after the curve. This is incorrect since speed limits do not always take into account the condition the road may be in at the time when you are driving on it and you should always choose safe speed while observing the speed limit.

Correct Permit Test Answer

The correct answer to the California DMV permit test question is B:

“THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER ABOUT SPEED MANAGEMENT AND CURVES IS TO SLOW DOWN BEFORE YOU ENTER THE CURVE”

Slowing down before you enter the curve and entering it as safe speed will ensure that all four wheels of your vehicle will have proper traction and that you will be able to stay in your lane while making the curve. Speeding or braking through the curve will result in uneven traction of your front or rear wheels and may throw you off the road.
